Nerding it out… hopefully

Anyone who’s worked call centre can agree with me: it’s no glamorous job. But working call centre definitely has its perks – when it’s not busy, I can study, and when it is, I can work overtime.

The last few days have been incredibly busy at work, which means no time to study at work but ample overtime! I’ve been taking as much overtime as I could because I figured it probably wouldn’t last forever and when the overtime stopped, I could ramp up my studying efforts again.

Unfortunately, today was the last day of overtime (so far… they’re “playing it by ear” so who knows if they’ll offer more this week) which isn’t entirely bad since I haven’t had much time to devote to studying. I am an entire week behind on my studying plan, so I really need to refocus my efforts on catching up.

After my 11.5 hour shift this evening, I went straight to the mall to pick up my new glasses. Even though I had laser eye surgery about 4 years ago, my eyes were so bad and weren’t fully stable yet, so they’re starting to get a bit worse again. I can still legally drive without glasses, but it’s annoying trying to squint to see things off in the distance. To make matters worse, I’m shortsighted in one eye and farsighted in the other! So wearing glasses gives me that weird fishbowl effect on one eye and that shrinking effect on the other. Great… At least the prescription isn’t so high that it’s super noticeable. Before surgery, if I happened to wear glasses, since one eye was significantly more shortsighted than the other, one eye also appeared significantly smaller than the other. My eyes are hopeless!

Yes, I made a whole new avatar for my new glasses!

Anyway, hopefully my nerdy new glasses will inspire me to hit the books hard tomorrow 😉

  1. I would like to add that anyone who successfully works a call center job will gain great people skills (notice I said “successfully works” a call center job, lol). I have a minor in psychology but learned much more about the human condition and how to get along with my fellow man right there in the call center :). I use the skills to this day.
